Asbestos

Asbestos was used in building materials until the mid 1980s. As long as it remains undamaged and does not deteriorate, it is safe. Asbestos is potentially dangerous if asbestos fibres are released when materials containing asbestos are damaged or disturbed.

We have procedures for managing asbestos in communal areas of our properties, which includes a register of dwellings where asbestos has been found or is believed to exist. The register is continually updated by surveying buildings so that we can decide the safest way to deal with it.

If asbestos is present in the communal areas of your property, please note the following instructions:

  • Do not use abrasives of any kind on asbestos materials
  • Do not use hand or power drills or other tools on asbestos materials
  • Do not use sandpaper to “key” asbestos surfaces fro painting or decorating
