The actual amount you receive will depend on the level of your income and savings, your rent and the number of people who live with you. If you are not sure whether you qualify for Housing Benefit you can ask the Housing Benefit Section to do a 'trial calculation' for you without you having to fill out the claim form.
Alternatively the following sites provide an online housing benefit calculator, which may be useful to you to help determine your entitlement and approximate rent payable:
When the benefit has been worked out, the Council will send you a letter telling you how much you get and how much you will have to pay as rent. To make payment much simpler, your tenancy agreement requires you to give consent for the payment of any Housing Benefit directly to us.
It is very important that you tell the Council's Housing Benefit Section if your circumstances alter, as the amount of benefit you receive may change. This could include changes of income or savings of anyone living with you or people moving into or out of your home.
If you are sent a review form by your local Housing Benefit Department, please ensure you complete the claim form and supply any required documentary evidence.
