Listed below are some of the things that could happen if your rent account falls into arrears.
If you need a transfer, a mutual exchange or any other form of move, having rent arrears will reduce your chances of success or we may suspend your transfer application.
Rent arrears will not affect our ability to move you should you qualify for an emergency transfer but your debt will move with you and will still need to be paid.
If we get a county court judgement (CCJ) against you to recover your rent arrears, the CCJ may mean that you will find it harder to get credit.
This could mean that you won’t be able to get a loan, overdraft or credit card.
This could affect your ability to get credit for a number of years.
When you apply for a mortgage, the lender will ask us for a reference for you. If you have rent arrears or have had them in the past, they will be less likely to offer you a mortgage.
If you are evicted because of rent arrears, the local authority may consider you to be “intentionally homeless” which means that you will have no right to an offer of new accommodation.
